Masters Brewery was originally started in 2005 by Richard Masters after many years in the brewing industry. After a very successful 4-year period, in 2009 the decision was made to mothball the brewery due to other business interests. A few years passed and after distancing himself from his other interests, re-opening Masters Brewery was back on the cards.

Then followed a period of traveling and brewing around Germany and the USA, and in November 2011 Richard returned to his home, and his brewery, with new insight, equipment and love for real ale. After extensive trials of the new equipment, re-visiting his family recipes, and hours of testing and production, the brewery was bought back to life and The Woodyard was born. After enlisting the help of his son, Dean, they have managed to grow Masters Brewery and The Woodyard both into a well respected brewery and ale house.

After re-introducing their ales back into the local pub market, and them being incredibly well received, Richard and Dean decided it was time to head in a new direction and start to put together a bottling line, to allow their products to be enjoyed by a much wider audience and those much further afield. In December 2012 the first run of bottled ales from Masters Brewery was completed and are now on sale in The Woodyard and many other local outlets.
